What is Concierge Medicine?
The accessibility of concierge medicine makes long wait times a thing of the past. With this business model we can maintain a smaller panel of patients. Emphasis is placed on patient-centered care and building meaningful relationships with our clients. We have eliminated restrictions put into place by insurance policies. This practice model gives our clients the opportunity to choose how they pay for their care ? annually or via monthly installments. Please keep in mind that even though we do not accept insurance we do advised our patients to keep this option in place for other reasons (i.e., emergency room visits, blood draws, etc.).
Why is Shakthi different?
Dr. Rao is Board Certified in Integrative Medicine and Functional Medicine. She has been in practice for over 20 years and has an integrative approach to her patients, which includes nutrition, mind/body focus, sleep promotion and movement. At Shakthi we have found that many health problems have inflammation as the root cause. We strive to find the imbalance in each patient and develop a personalized approach for every individual. We also use testing which looks at salivary and urine hormone balance, stool and breath tests for gut imbalances, food sensitivity testing and nutrient testing to identify triggers for each individual. In addition to all this, Dr. Rao is also trained in medical acupuncture.
Dr. Rao?s viewpoint: After years of insurance restrictions, I am finally able to spend the time with each patient that I feel is necessary which definitely adds quality to each visit. This is not possible in the standard model that is present in most doctors? offices. I am thoroughly enjoying my role in this new model, and appreciate the positive feedback from our patients. We welcome new patients and encourage you to tour our facilities and meet the staff and myself if you are interested.
What is Functional Medicine?
Functional Medicine is a practice of medicine, which optimizes the functioning of a body, on an organ and cellular level, usually using a holistic approach.
An example of the symptom based approach versus the standard diagnosis approach:
- Hypertension (High Blood Pressure): Could be due to: too much stress hormone, inflammation due to weight gain, toxin burden, nutrient or gut imbalance or food sensitivity.
- Insomnia: could be from hormone imbalance, neurotransmitter imbalance, gut imbalance, nutrient imbalance, genetic predisposition, or even medication side effects.
What is Integrative Medicine?
Integrative Medicine (IM) is a patient focused, healing oriented approach that considers the whole person and their lifestyle. The goal of IM is to maintain health and wellness over the course of a person?s life. The strong relationship between practitioner and patient encourages both to be aware of each patient?s emotional and physical needs. IM utilizes evidence-based interventions, as well as lifestyle changes in order to promote healing, without solely depending on pharmacological tools. The World Health Organization (WHO) defines health as ?a state of complete physical, mental and social well being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.?
