Above And Beyond
I came to see Dr. Rao with symptoms of chronic fatigue, abdominal pains, depression, and weight gain. I had seen a couple other doctors and they had found that I had very high inflammation levels and over 15 food allergies/sensitivities. They wanted me to just take prescription drugs, but I wanted more than a quick fix. I wanted my health and my life back!
When I scheduled the appointment, I was surprised how by helpful Kelly was on the phone. I didn’t know the details of my insurance coverage and Kelly offered to call my insurance for me. I’ve never had anyone at a doctor’s office do that before.
Expectations Were Far Exceeded
In my first appointment with Dr. Rao, she articulated to greater detail what I was experiencing than I could have myself: she understood my health problems in more detail than I did after just one meeting. Additionally, she explained that my condition could be improved and, given enough time and effort on my part, reversed. Eleni, the nutritionist at Shakthi, sat in on part of my meeting with Dr. Rao and took notes. She helped me sort through all of the information Dr. Rao had given me. I now schedule a follow up with Eleni after every visit with Dr. Rao.
Every member of the Shakthi staff was welcoming, friendly, and helpful. Dr. Rao is incredibly knowledgeable. She clearly outlines the current status of my health and options of treatment. Eleni is just as knowledgeable and is always available via email to answer my questions in between visits. Another major standout is the fact that Dr. Rao and Eleni both review my test results before I walk in the door. They are thoroughly familiar with my case and give me individual care and attention that I don’t see at other offices.
I have been coming to see Dr. Rao for over a year now and I plan to continue seeing her for many years. The diagnosis, testing, and treatment I’ve been getting at Shakthi is comprehensive and individualized to my needs. As my health improves I will continue to follow up with Dr. Rao in order to maintain balance in my body and lifestyle.
I sleep more, eat healthier, and workout more. I’m happy again. I had no idea the impact nutritional deficiencies and gut health could have on my mood and energy levels. I had had deficiencies in vitamins/chemicals that inhibited sleep, caused fat retention, and even caused depression. I was shocked to find out that my levels of a precursor to dopamine, aka the happiness chemical, were low. Chemically, I wasn’t getting happy, but now I have highs and lows like anyone else. I had also had a vitamin D deficiency for two years. I’d seen other doctors and nutritionists about it, but it didn’t get better. After my last visit with Dr. Rao, my vitamin D is actually high! I had had abdominal pains almost every morning that left me doubled over my desk at work. I’ve only had that pain once in the last two months. This year, I’ve had many people tell me that I’m like a new person.
My Health Is My Responsibility
I’ve learned that my health is my responsibility. I have to put in the time and effort to make lifestyle changes. Dr. Rao and her staff support me in that. I’ve also realized that health is a journey with highs and lows like life. I’m gradually getting better and better as my body recovers. My initial diagnosis and required lifestyle changes were overwhelming in the beginning, but they are normal habits for me now. As my health continues to improve, I know that the Shakthi staff will help me and update my wellness plan at each step.
